Yesterday's News Before the Dead Hit the Ground
("Multiple People Are Fatally Shot at a Walmart in Virginia")
We don't even pretend to do something to stop the flow of blood anymore. Each incident barely distinguishable from the one before it and the one as sure to follow as night follows day. Yesterday's news before the dead hit the ground.
I am sick and tired of all of this. The endless attempts to deflect attention away from our national obsession with guns, to stand reason on its head with ludicrous interpretation of the Second Amendment, to ignore continuous stories of lives cut down for absolutely no reason other than politicians seeking to insure they remain tethered to their power even as the corpses pile up at their doorstep.
We are not coming to take your guns, not because we shouldn't but because we can't. Not because these guns protect your lives but because they protect politician's careers. Not because we don't know better but because we don't do better.
All of you who allow this tragedy to play out on endless loop should be ashamed. For those who will never know another Thanksgiving, I apologize to you. You deserved better than this. Your story did not have to end this way.
Your story did not have to end this way.
