It has been a tough off season. I have seen friends and relatives brought low with health issues. I have watched the political circus in this country become ever more disturbing. I have looked on in horror at the devastating effects of war around the globe. It has been a time of ongoing grave distress and concern.

And so I have anxiously waited for the boys of summer to come to my rescue. For my athletic heroes to quiet my fears. For the sounds and sights I have held close to my heart since that first catch with my dad to embrace me. For the swift and the strong to bring me their best and capture my attention and my heart.

I am overwhelmingly glad that baseball is coming back into my life. To find the pure unadulterated joy in pursuit of something so trivial. And so unequivocally important.
