It was as a life unrivalled, then unraveled. The glory days becoming the gory days as deceit and death became the coin of his realm. Alex Murdaugh living lie after lie until it all came crashing down. The brutal slaying of his wife and younger son not an aberration, merely the last horrific attempt to cover his tracks. 

I watched Mr. Murdaugh testify to the endless litany of his transgressions, having stolen from clients and law partners over the course of many years, having attempted to manipulate his universe through a combination of power and power of persuasion. Having misled the police as to his whereabouts in the moments immediately preceding the events that took place on that terrible evening when the unthinkable became the acceptable.

The jury deliberations did not last even a half day. On the stand, Mr. Murdaugh had responded to an inquiry about one of his myriad lies, with an all to prophetic "oh what a tangled web". Those who rendered the verdict having seen through the fabrications as they stared into the defendant's heart of darkness.  

It was a tragedy worthy of Shakespeare, the descent of Alex Murdaugh into Hell, his journey from god to demon playing its last terrible act out upon this stage. His frightening evil cold, calculated and endless.
