Frank Bruni's "The Best Sentences of 2024" is an absolute must-read. I take that back, it is an absolute must not read if I am to have any hope of continuing to hypnotize you with my verbal dexterity.
This recital is overflowing with damn people who are witty where I am wanting, hilarious where I am helpless. They put words together in sequence that seemingly defy the laws of gravity, every syllable floating above the abyss where my flailing efforts reside.
It is just not fair that each sentence they pen is so friggin intelligent. I mean writing is, for me, an immaculate performance in failing to express myself in an intelligible manner. For those featured in this article, articulating without blemish seems to come to them as easily as lying does to Donald Trump.
I would ask that next year this article be devoted to the worst sentences of 2025. I am certain I can win that one standing on my head (so all my thoughts can come pouring out).
I have never been so impressed and depressed in the same moment. Thanks for offering up this special treat to your readers. Strike that. Thanks for nothing.
