The 11th Commandment - an edited version of this post is scheduled to appear in Letters to the Editor in the Washington Post
("Louisiana requires 10 Commandments to be displayed in public classrooms.")
You see this law is all about insinuating one set of values into the fabric of society. Book banning, overturning Roe. Reshaping our bedrooms and our classrooms in their image, as they dictate. Controlling bodies and minds as they say. A revolution against evolution.
We find ourselves at an inflection point in our democracy. Where our most essential freedom, the freedom to think, is under attack. Where we are being maneuvered, manipulated, messaged and manhandled. Where the circle is closing ever tighter until we are left with no space to reach our own determinations. Where we cannot raise questions but must merely follow dictates.
If you think this is not such a big deal, that plastering the 10 Commandments on our classroom walls is a harmless exercise, then I worry what next will find its way into our lives and our vocabularies.
It started way back in the 50's when they added "under god" into our pledge of allegiance. Little by little, and now, by bigger sand bigger, they have destroyed the idea of separation of State land Church. What will be next? Making their church, their god the official church and god of the USA?
I share your concerns as well. Well said as always!
