Thanksgiving Dinner with Our Republican Uncle Kevin
("It's Time, Again, for My Brother Kevin")
The Republicans may want a divorce from Mr. Trump but they are not divorced from him. Not from the worst of his instincts, from his hatreds, his policies that lack compassion or comprehension. Their party doesn't want to abandon any of this. They just want to abandon him. His personal demons, his profound eccentricities, their albatross, not his political beliefs.
As for hearing from the wrong Dowd once a year, why bother? The New York Times has enough people like Bret Stephens, Ross Douthat and David Brooks to remind us all year of the many disappointments we should recognize in the Democratic Party.
Why we do need to swallow another turkey immediately after we have just consumed enough of it to fill our bellies?
I disagree with every issue Mr. Dowd takes issue with. But more than that I take issue with your newspaper. There need not be a counterpoint for every point. Especially a Dowd family feud edition. Played out on your pages.
Next year may you give us this Thanksgiving blessing: a dinner without Uncle Kevin sitting at the table and telling us all why we are so very wrong about virtually everything.
