Succession

It was a high wire act. These children, at once all powerful and powerless, consumed by darkness and yet each with a hint of light, feared but pitied, trying desperately to become something their father told each of them they deserved to be, each knowing Logan truly believed none of them were remotely good enough. 

They lived in a castle built on false promises and false expectations. They thirsted for the power to create reality out of fiction, both in their personal narrative and for the landscape that lay below them. But in the end, the earth turned out to be flat for the Roy children. And even from the grave, their father's disappointment in what they had failed to accomplish, to preserve, to become, was almost palpable

Succession brought us inside the minds of  puppet-masters who reach the final inescapable conclusion they are puppets themselves. It is a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad universe of back-stabbing, manipulating, cruelty and pain. We hate each of these characters for their glaring flaws. Yet we dare not look away. And we choose not to abandon them.

It was a train wreck played out in 41 gut wrenching episodes. And it was a treasure.
