Steve Austin, Babe Ruth and Shohei Ohtani
Steve Austin, Babe Ruth and Shohei Ohtani.
50 years ago a Superman, rebuilt with bionic parts that made him more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap over the network competition on TV, cost 6 million dollars. Today, that money likely buys a bench warmer who has either seen better days or a future star who has not yet graduated to free agency.
Shohei Ohtani is a once in a century talent. Able to do what only Babe Ruth has done before him. What the imagination can merely suggest, Ohtani can accomplish.
In 1930 Babe Ruth was paid $80,000, which was $5000 more than Herbert Hoover received for being President of the United States. When asked if he thought this appropriate, Mr. Ruth replied "why not? I had a better year than he did."
Now Mr. Ohtani will receive more for EACH game he plays (or doesn't) than our President earns ANNUALLY.
Shohei Ohtani, baseball's 700 million dollar man. Babe Ruth would roll over in his grave. Or at least ask to renegotiate his contract. And Steve Austin? For 6 million he would just be a spare part.
