While the final tally of the judges remains, it appears that America will live to fight another day. The red wave not nearly the feared tsunami destroying everything in its path. MAGA hats at half staff as we awake.
Defeat for the Democrats, if defeat it is, rarely tasted this sweet. Mid term elections are a time for the party in power to point fingers and figure out how to right a listing ship. Except for the electoral remnants of 9/11, every mid term for decades a reminder not to get too big for your britches.
For the moment, it is, as I have reminded my readers for nearly a decade and a half, still too early to call. The Senate may yet again rest on a December run-off in Georgia. And the House is definitely tilting right. Even in the best scenario, President Biden's next two years will undoubtedly be even more uncomfortable for him, and us, than the past two.
But this is a morning to celebrate. The biggest victory is the possibility that the intractable grip of Donald Trump on his party, on this country, may be slipping through his little fingers. What lies ahead may even be worse (De Sanctimonious, as Donny refers to him, a di-stink possibility). But that is for tomorrow. In this moment, merely contemplating Mr. Trump's orange face turning red with anger is enough.
So this is a small thank you note to the country. You deserve a little hug for restoring at least a sliver of faith in you.
For democracy, it now seems, did not die after all on November 8, 2022.
Yes, way way better than the worst case scenario. Be that as it may, the fact that 66% of 260,000 voters in Georgia district 14 voted for Jewish Space Laser wingnut M.T.Green tells me there is still a deadly democracy-killing virus loose in America. At least at the time of this writing Lauren Boebert might get her walking papers. One less bomb-thrower is still something.
