His approval rating has been dropping "slightly faster than that of his predecessors" from 52 percent to 45 percent.

And that is not the story??

You mean the demolition of everything we have known to be true about our nation, about our democracy creates but a slight blip on the radar screen??

And that is not the story??

You mean realizing that our jobs are not secure, our alliances are not real, the water we drink, the air we breathe, the vaccines we take are not promised to be protected, NONE of that registers as a problem??

And that is not the story??

You mean the attack on our educational institutions, on our freedom to speak and to teach, on our lawyers, on their ability to defend and prosecute as facts demand, that doesn't cause a mass exit off the Trump freeway??

And that is not the story??

You mean the tariffs that have set the stock market ablaze and sent countries around the globe scrambling to find better, more trustworthy partners in the future, has not led to an approval rating of below the freezing mark for the President??

And that is not the story??

You mean the administration blatantly ignoring orders of our highest court, deeming the life of certain among us as not worthy of consideration (understanding you could be next in line) and mocking those who would challenge their inhumanity, doesn't diminish his popularity??

And that is not the story??

You mean humiliating the President of Ukraine and then informing him that his country must surrender to those who have attacked them or we will abandon their cause and leave them to die on the vine, and oh by the way, give us all your riches as our tip, that is insufficient reason to reconsider allegiance to our leader??

And that is not the story??

You mean surrounding himself with flunkies and toadies who couldn't shoot their way out of a paper bag, virtually all of whom at one time spoke truth as to the lunacy of supporting Donald Trump but now kiss his ring, that didn't ring the fire alarm?? And what about the Elon Musk show??

And that is not the story??

The answer to what will it take for those who support Donald Trump to jump ship is NOTHING!! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!

What this poll screams is that for those who believe in Donald Trump there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that will shake their fundamental faith in him. When the worst they could imagine one day comes, when all the ills that this President has engendered are at their doorstep, still those ever loyal to this President will hold him dear, finding somehow that he was not the catalyst for their doom, that he, in some unfathomable universe, was not the one to blame.

So this "slightly faster" decline in popularity IS the story. The story of the fanaticism of those who refuse to believe what their eyes show them, what their ears tell them. The story of how so many in a nation can become enamored with the worst leader this nation has ever had to endure. The story of moral and ethical decline. The story of a willingness to dismiss the suffering of others. The story of our embrace of an alternative to sanity, to reality, to democracy.

The story of "slightly faster."
