("Americans Like a Happy Warrior: Our Columnists Weigh in on Tim Scott")
He's a relatively young, not white, not abrasive, not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, not "the world is ending" conservative trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.
This is a party that embraces dystopia, racism and anger. And old age and daddy's money, at least as it relates to Donald Trump, is not a deterrent.
So Mr. Scott may have a sizable war chest of dollars but this particular Republican's coffer is virtually empty when it comes to owning a path to the nomination.
While, in a theoretical universe, Mr. Trump should be on the ropes, having led his party directly to election day disappointment in 2018, 20 and 22, coupled with his present multiple damning legal entanglements, in the actual terra ferma he remains Teflon Don.
For Tim Scott and the other wannabes trying to escape the Republican land of the ugliest possible American, the great wall of Trump still gives all indication of being an impenetrable barrier preventing them from crossing the border.
Eventually, Tim Scott undoubtedly will accept joining the ‘Trump / Scott’ ticket. As Vice President, he could tip the scales in the next election. Thus far, Democrats have not initiated a vociferous critique of Scott’s embrace of Republican dogma. This does not bode well. --RE
