And we gave the Republicans such grief for kowtowing. The ones who had initially spoken loudly as never-Trumpers who later lined up to curtsy and bow before him (I decided not to use the more graphic image of the part of his anatomy they kissed up to).
Surely the progressive media would not now succumb. And the titans of industry who moved and shaped the universe would stand firm against a would be tyrant.
So much for that fantasy.
It is a time when we seem to have lost our footing and our resolve. The protests and protestations of yesteryear having dissipated or disappeared completely. We are left grasping for straws and gasping at the lack of defiance, the abdication of responsibility to safeguard what we have long held most dear.
Maybe what this reveals is that the thing we hold most dear is survival. And at a moment where the strongman seems strongest and the retribution seems close at hand, those who have thrown in the towel have come to the conclusion that what they have to fear is more than fear itself.
Pucker up.
Could be that survival thing. But, somehow I doubt it.
