If we believed matters could not be worse than on January 6, 2021, then I would suggest a Supreme Court ruling prohibiting Mr. Trump from appearing on the ballot in Colorado (and elsewhere) will make the attempted insurrection seem like a walk in the park.
And, if I were a betting man, the odds of the ruling from Colorado being sustained on appeal are about the same as my being named opening day starter for the Yankees next season.
Both the makeup of the Justices, tilted in the direction of Mr. Trump, and the weight of the moment make it a virtual impossibility that Joe Biden will be facing one of the minor leaguers next November.
And should the unimaginable occur, who would say that Mr. Trump could not be a write in choice on millions upon millions of ballots.
If we thought the hanging chad fiasco was bad and the insurrection was the nadir, you ain't seen nothing yet if the votes for Mr. Trump are scribbled in by crayon.
One thing sure to turn the king of persecution into the dictator he hopes to be, is a Supreme Court decision upholding the Constitution and booting the putative Republican nominee out the door. 4 indictments, 91 charges. Just the prelude to the denouement of democracy.
There ain't no sanity clause this Christmas season.
Even if Trump ultimately gets kicked off the Colorado ballot, the worry is that a 3rd candidate in the general election will deprive any candidate with sufficient electoral votes to win. Trump's strategy is to have the House give him the win. --RE
