("Trump contradicts himself on abortion, searching for a winning message.")
First he ran on it. Now all he wants to do is run away from it.
Donald Trump's self professed proudest accomplishment as President, if you can call happening to be there when three slots on the highest court opened up (ok, two, but who wants to nit-pick about stealing that other one), was to put in-Justices in place to bring down Roe.
But now that the political winds have shifted, so has the opinion of the man whose beliefs are as shallow as the roots of a newly planted tree. John Kerry's infamous "I was for it before I was against it" having no more pertinent application than in Mr. Trump's meandering journey through the pro's (choice vs life) and cons (with intended double entendre) on an issue of which he has made an absolute abortion. Remember sixteen weeks sounds good. It's even. Four months. A round number. Oh boy.
The recent sham creation of the former President that his intention was only to give the question back to the States (to screw it up) has not held up well. So now he is trying on another slipper until he finds one that fits his (I can only guess) unusually small feet.
Mr. Trump does not often squirm, does not often even remotely admit error, no matter how egregious or self evident. But this one seems to have him flummoxed as he back pedals and tries to pull a three card monte on his constantly "evolving" stance.
The only thing we know for certain is that no matter what he states today, Donald Trump is fully capable of tomorrow denying he said it. His story (history) a tale of many cities.
I always thought that the GOP had a sterling list of candidates, such as Palin, Quayle , Bush II, Agnew just to name a few in recent times, but now we can add Vance and Trump. It's scary !
That these two have a chance to lead our country is mind blowing.
