Juan Soto
It is always hold your breath time when you trade a number of almosts and maybes for one superstar. Was there a Willie Randolph or Lou Brock hidden in this trade for a Doc Medich or an Ernie Broglio? And even if Soto is as advertised, is all this just a one year rental before he is scooped up elsewhere as a free agent?
That being said, the Yankees have been leaking oil for over a decade. 2009 feels like it happened when dinosaurs roamed the earth. And last year, when Rizzo went down, there was not a left handed hitter of value anywhere within sniffing distance of the lineup.
Judge is starting to creep up in years. Maybe they can squeeze one more season of value out of LeMahieu and Stanton. The remaining horizon for this group is diminishing rapidly.
We can't afford to let the Yankees start to look like the 1965 edition. They desperately needed an infusion of youth and a second immortal to join the lineup.
Was this trade worth it? Only time will tell. But should the trigger have been pulled? I can see flag #28 waving now. And I couldn't yesterday morning. 'Nuff said.
