("In 2022, Reality Has a Conservative Bias")
Inflation. Immigration. Incarceration. An impressive list of "I"s laid at the feet of the pie in the sky Democrats
But as to inflation, do we not consider the small fact of Russia's invasion of Ukraine and its impact on economies around the globe, supply chain issues and energy cut offs creating a massive problem that we are dealing with better than most, if not all, in restraining its effects?
And, as to immigration, is this not a problem that Mr. Trump dealt with wildly unsuccessfully with his imaginary wall and his locking children in cages? And do we not recognize that poverty and violence drive others to seek refuge here, and that unless their homelands have better days ahead we will remain the recipient of their dreams, whether we are living under Democratic or Republican rule?
As to incarceration, has there not been a pandemic that has created many unwanted effects? Crime did spike in 2020 as our nation dealt with the disorienting impact of Covid. But the numbers have come down since then. And New York City, demonized in some right wing circles as a Hell on earth, is actually one of the safest places to live in the country. Or that the overall crime statistics, while unacceptable are still far less than they were in past decades. And do we not consider as part of the equation, the wild proliferation of guns, even as conservatives bury their heads in the sand and rant about protection of Second Amendment rights?
Does reality have a conservative bias in 2022? Ask Paul Pelosi, who according to Republican sources from the top down, either staged his fractured skull or was in the midst of a session with a male prostitute gone wrong.
Or the continuing absurdity of the stolen election that is the beating heart of the conservative world.
So, Mr. Douthat forgive me if I don't wholeheartedly endorse your position. Or the unfettered honesty of any contention that a party whose entire platform is to turn every truth into a lie until it is impossible to distinguish one from the other, is really our beacon of shining light.
Truth, you see, still has a definite Democratic bias.
Just terrific. You distill all these issues so perfectly!!!!
