Mr. Pinker need not apologize for Harvard's imperfections, its shortcomings, or provide praise for the best of what it has to offer. There has not been a studied analysis of this school by the administration. This is not an attack by the government of this university's cons. This is simply a con.

Mr. Trump loves to hate. And when he hates, it is with the most intense fury. Harvard is not a college. It is a symbol. And as a symbol it is not composed of individuals, not endowed with intellectual capacity. It is merely a vehicle, a place where the President can make a point. In his own fashion, loudly and wildly.

Donald Trump has announced his list of enemies. "Elite" universities prominent among them. Harvard, the perfect target as the head of this snake. There are no shades of color in this universe. Only black or white. Only for or against.

There can be no appeasing Mr. Trump. For those who are victims of his animus, the goal line will forever be moving. Anti-Semitism was the first excuse, the first predicate for the attack. DEI, then the courses offered, the next. Foreign students now the focus. Tomorrow it will be something else, anything else.

For Harvard no longer exists to educate. It has disappeared under an avalanche of Mr. Trump's malice.
