Fairy Tales Can Come True

("Donald Trump, Blocking Out the Sun")
Story time. Politics is indeed pretty much all about that. Heck, most of life is.
And who can make up tales better than Donald Trump? Who can stand there with an orange face, making himself lily white. A self made man (he had to earn every dollar he inherited, had to fight every Bank he left with empty pockets, every contractor he stiffed, every 501C 3 where he was the only charity), a family man (well, three families, with a few tiny affairs and a sexual assault or so thrown in for good measure), a religious fellow (so what if he won't tell you which part of the Bible he absolutely adores the most, or that he finds it perfectly peachy to hawk it for a quick $60), out to protect the common man (so what if he only pushes tax cuts for the rich and would beat down benefits for the poor if there was a whiff of an opportunity to do so), a protector of basic rights (even if he treats the Constitution as a series of suggestions), a true believer in law and order (unless the law happens to be pointed at him and the order is to keep from bad mouthing those reciting his transgressions), a martyr who has been wronged by an evil empire that has challenged him for such nonsense as keeping confidential papers in his bathroom and throwing a hissy fit when he is repeatedly requested to return them, or cheering on those who came within an eyelash of hanging his Vice President or the Speaker of the House.
And I feel as if this recitation doesn't even remotely begin to scratch the surface of a man who sends love sonnets to dictators and who hopes one day to emulate them, and finds grievous fault with those who have long had our back, who holds every immigrant as but a villain in waiting, who when faced with a daunting health crisis decided to wing it, undoubtedly making matters worse and leaving this nation with deaths far in excess of what circumstances would have otherwise demanded.
But like I said, this is just storytelling and none of this is in the whopper of a tale told by the man of 30,000 lies just during his four years at the helm. Forget his perfect phone call with President Zelensky, his locating good people among the racists Hell bent on destroying those they chose to treat as enemies, the finding after finding in court after court that he has violated civil and criminal laws. Or, immediately after the latest verdict, reporting it was a Soros (do you need a hint about this dog whistle) backed undertaking. None of that matters.
For in his version of grim fairy tales, he is none of these things, has done not one wrong, nothing in the slightest to deserve such prosecution, such persecution. He is but one of us. Ok, maybe not quite the exact same, but you get it.
So he may have his planes, his buildings, his golf courses. So he may lie, cheat and steal to enrich himself while not actually giving a damn about anyone else in the universe. But what's a little huffing and puffing between friends? Who cares if alternative facts are the only ones that matter in the land of make believe? Because, after all is said and done, Joe Biden does look pretty damn old these days. And who wants a President who can't tell a white lie or two with an orange face?
