You know, we've been going about this all wrong. We should believe absolutely everything Donald Trump has ever told us. Only then can we be assured that this not so gentle man is ineligible to run for President in 2024.
Forget every rotten thing we ever said about him. Forget that we had a running count of his lies. Forget the 4 indictments, the 91 charges. And you can even forget the Section 3, Fourteenth Amendment challenge to Mr. Trump's being qualified to be on the ballot this year. Just take the man at his word.
The Twenty Second Amendment to the Constitution became the law of the land in 1951. It was enacted as a response to the four term presidency of Franklin Delano Roosevelt from 1932 to 1945, ended only by his death. The unambiguous text of the Amendment reads as follows:
"No person shall be ELECTED to the office of President more than twice" (emphasis added)
How many times has Donald Trump told us he WON the election in 2020, just as he did in 2016. I mean, he brought at least 60 lawsuits to prove to us this was so. And that attack on the Capitol on January 6th, well, it was nothing more than Donald trying to take what was already rightfully his. And he never would have had to stoop to any of this if we had only believed in the world according to Trump from the get go.
So let me be the first Trump hater to declare this: Donald Trump was the clear and outright winner in 2020.
And I promise you this Mr. Trump. If you accept our most heartfelt and sincere apologies for ever doubting you and agree that, in accord with the 22nd Amendment, you are disqualified from seeking to be elected President for a THIRD time, then we will forgive you ALL your other alleged trespasses (of which we were obviously gravely misinformed), will drop all the pending criminal charges, undo the civil Judgments, declare Trump University to have been a rip roaring success, make your next season of the Apprentice even greater than the ones before and allow you to continue to cheat at golf, not challenging you when you say you won a club championship that you didn't even play in.
For those who would suggest, ipso facto, this mandates the ascension of Mr. Trump to the throne at once for the balance of the present term, I cite the Ruth Bader Ginsburg rule. Firmly established in 2016 by the Republican party, it states that no important action, from where to go on vacation to who is to fill a Supreme Court vacancy, is ever permissible in an election year. Res Judicata. Good for both goose and gander.
And by the way Mr. Trump, you cannot contend you remain eligible to run because you did not SERVE a second term. The Amendment nowhere speaks to this. It is enough that the people, at least enough of enough, said you were the one, twice. And you have convinced me that they did.
So, under our Constitution, we have had enough of Donald Trump. And, apart from our Constitution, our constitution permits no more.
Very clever. If only.--RE
Think it would work?
