PLEASE NOTE THAT PART I IMMEDIATELY PRECEDED THIS POST
(Part II- We now welcome our first woman President)
It seemed an afterthought in this election, almost an asterisk. And, oh by the way, after nearly 250 years of our existence, the United States of America has chosen a woman to lead us forward.
In what must clearly be seen as a stunning rebuke to Donald Trump and his view of America as a dystopia, Kamala Harris has been overwhelmingly chosen as the 47th President of our country. And while the margin of victory, both in the votes counted and electoral numbers was far greater than the pollsters would have suggested, we can, unfortunately, be certain we have not heard the last from Mr. Trump. The first lawsuits challenging the results having already been filed in multiple jurisdictions.
It has been a remarkable election period. First with the incumbent, Joe Biden, having a disastrous fall from grace after a presidential debate that stunningly demonstrated to the nation a precipitous decline in his faculties. Then Ms. Harris emerging as the chosen one of her party, radiating a joy and vibrance that has been wholly absent and sorely missed in the electoral process. Thereafter, Mr. Trump falling on his ego in the one and only debate between these candidates. And, oh yes, one more item: the image of Mr. Trump with a raised fist and blood coming down his face as a result of the first of two attempts on his life.
Ms. Harris having a steady climb through the ranks, her resume reading as one whose professional life was devoted to preserving and protecting this nation. Tacking to the center on positions as warranted and necessary. Being a fierce advocate for women's autonomy, the right to choose meaning the right to choose the person who had their backs, who understood and did not, privately, and often publicly, denigrate them.
Kamala Harris is a firm hand, one who well understands the difficulties this nation faces and who, unlike Mr. Trump, would not lead with bluster, with petty grievances, with hatred and disdain.
Whenever Donald Trump is in the conversation, there is little space for adequate consideration of any one else. His, longer than his arm list of transgressions, his bombast, ego and deficiencies taking up all the air in the room. But when we have had the opportunity to block out the noise of Mr. Trump, when we have looked under the hood and kicked the tires, we have been reassured that Kamala Harris is by leaps and bounds the best choice. Our future is in the hands of a dedicated, strong public servant who is fully capable of meeting the enormous challenges ahead, foreign and domestic, with reason, composure and, dare we say it, even a hint of joy.
We are thankful for the election of Kamala Harris and grateful that the all drama that is Donald Trump, the stoking of our fears, the call to the worst that is within us, the continual chaos and calamity, is behind us.
We wish Ms. Harris success in office and we pray that our nation and our world can find a way to heal and unify.
But one thing we can never expect: a call from Donald Trump to Kamala Harris on a victory well earned.
Fingers crossed 🤞
