("In Birthright Citizenship Case, the Supreme Court Examines the Power of District Court Judges")
This country is now waist deep in absolute turmoil over the issue of what the President and his party would suggest is an immigrant "invasion." They have strenuously argued that these "vermin" are infecting the well being of our nation, threatening our way of life, making America less than great.
They have taken this up as their defining cause. They have locked up and thrown away the key on those they seem undesirable. Judge, jury and executioner.
And our Supreme Court now is peopled with a majority of justices who have shown a marked proclivity to lean heavily into the conservative point of view, willing and able to embrace arguments that have formerly been rejected (including a very expansive view of the propriety and authority of actions undertaken by the President).
So we dare not take as a given that the past unequivocal declaration of the Supreme Court that birthright citizenship is an inalienable right afforded to all persons born on our soil will remain sacrosanct.
The fact that the Court has accepted the case now before it is itself fair warning. And while there is the possibility that this has merely been undertaken to stop the noise and end any conversation on ambiguity or uncertainty on this subject, I would not wager a penny that is what is foremost in the mind of many of these Justices.
Donald Trump has continually demonized those who do not look or speak like his concept of an American. He will now get to test whether the Constitution and the Court is strong enough to repel his attack. Or whether one man can bend the arc of this nation wherever he directs.
The evil of the John Birch Society has now been instilled in the Heritage Foundation. Where is the outrage?--RE
I don't like where this is going. SCOTUS sucks.
