("Each Indictment Solidifies Trump's Base")
Mr. Lowry is right. Damned if we do. Now thrice damned and soon heading for more.
So the conservative base chuckles at the Hobson's choice of their opposition: do nothing and embolden Mr. Trump or do something and embolden Mr. Trump. To indict or not to indict: that is the question.
But, there is a difference. For though the wheels of justice turn painfully slowly, there is the possibility of a day of reckoning when the criminal charges are finally adjudicated. To turn away from such pursuit would be to abandon the very system of laws that is the bedrock of our nation.
So, yes, Mr. Trump may gain political capital with each succeeding accusation in a universe turned on its head. But he was destined to be the Republican nominee anyway. Thus, by pursuing Mr. Trump for his transgressions, the inevitable only remains the inevitable.
Mr Lowry, I would agree that by charging Donald Trump those who oppose everything he has shown himself to be will lose the battle. But there is still a war to be won.
