("At Donald Trump's Hearing, Several Justices Suggest Presidents Need Some Immunity")
That thud you heard was democracy crashing.
Yesterday's argument before the Supreme Court branded its conservative Justices as co-conspirators in Donald Trump's efforts to subvert the 2020 election.
For it appears the former President was hardly the subject of discussion. This particular case, the facts in controversy were subsumed by an evident burning desire of the majority of the Court to render some proclamation "for the ages" which was absolutely mandated to keep this country from dissolving. Lines in the sand had to be drawn. And if this meant sending the case back to the lower courts to give definition to the limits of what may be deemed official conduct, so be it.
The real world impact, not apparently of sufficient import to even mention, is that Mr. Trump's slings and arrows aimed at our collective heart will not be addressed further in any criminal matter before this November. His claim of immunity for trying to turn America into his own fiefdom left as a hanging chad. The 2024 election of insufficient note to merit serious consideration or provide the Court with even the slightest sense of urgency.
If the tea leaves from yesterday's argument prove accurate, Mr. Trump's Art of the Stall will have proved a resounding success. He disappeared from sight yesterday. Now but a mere footnote to be considered at a date to be determined. Whenever. Who cares.
And for that, his co-conspirators should have been perp walked, still dressed in their robes, for booking as accessories after the fact.
My heart is so heavy. This is the worst thing for our country.--RE
