A Passing Star
Move over Danny. There's a new DeVito in town.
It is like Linsanity redux. Forget that the team is 5 and 8 and headed nowhere. Disregard the sacks that, until last night, happened as frequently as an old man with prostate issues heading to the bathroom. Is Tommy Cutlets a passing star or merely a passing star? Today, all that matters is we have reason to smile. And kiss each other on the cheek.
An NFL quarterback living at home with his Mommy and Daddy. No Taylor Swift in the stands. Just his parents, his brother and his agent. No 40 million dollar a year quarterback leading his team to the promised land. Only an undrafted guy from the neighborhood turning a "what is he doing here" into his moment in prime time. As in Prime Time.
Jeremy Lin went from the end of the bench to one of Time's most influential people in the blink of an eye. He was magic, maybe even Magic, until the glass slipper fell off. Eventually he became more of a shooting star than a shooting star. But for that one season he was IT. And it was fun.
In the near future, the Giants face the Eagles twice and Tommy DeVito will likely fall back to earth and quite often onto the seat of his pants.
But for tonight, he was a man. The Man. Even if he still resides in his boyhood bedroom. Mostly because he does.
