("Stock markets jump after Trump announces 90-day pause on many tariffs.")
From a "little bit yippy" to more than a little bit yippee.
Your terminology is just a tad misplaced. Missing an 18 inch putt is a “little bit yippy.” This is an animal of an entirely different stripe.
So, if you believe President Trump (and who doesn't?) it turns out that our reaction to his committing economic hari kari with our 401Ks was the catalyst for his Blink-2025. Because he will never admit a mistake, no matter how gargantuan. And gargantuan mistake is actually his middle name.
So he was "acting instinctively." Heaven forbid he decide to give a moment's thought before blundering, that he study the economic history of the negative impact of tariffs, that he listen to the thousand experts braying at him to stop the steal of our equilibrium, of our standing in the world, of what has made us and kept us whole.
It is not as if the insanity has disappeared. His cutting off trade with China (a 125 percent tariff on their exports Exhibit A on the WTF scale) still has enormous negative consequence for each of us. And, after the euphoria of yesterday, in short order that reality will once again undoubtedly roil the market.
But, for the moment at least, we have not fallen into the abyss. "Yippy", yippee. You say potato, I say potatoe. Let's call the whole tariff thing off.
Very clever. Very sad. I'm terrified.
