There is a real life consequence to the criminal trial of Donald Trump now occurring in the small confines of a Manhattan courtroom. Not whether Mr. Trump will ever spend a moment behind bars because that possibility is as likely as another solar eclipse next week. Rather, if this case will all but assure his election.
A finding of guilt will do little to impact Mr. Trump's chances in November. New York City which deems the former President a four letter word. Where guilty even if proven innocent is the standard. Where Republicans go to die, politically that is.
But should there be an always Trumper hidden in the weeds of this jury, just one who come Hell or Michael Cohen, will stand resolute against the tide, then this jury will not be Mr. Trump's judge. And if the conclusion reached is no conclusion, then much like Mr. Barr's glass is half full declaration of the findings of the Mueller report, any non-determination here would bring forth an unending cascade of "Trump is innocent" proclamations.
And if Donald could get away with this, then maybe he actually could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose a vote. If the Big Apple swings and misses, then what chance does Sleepy Joe have in November across the rest of this nation's landscape?
The very future of America resting on the shoulders of 12 maybe not so angry men and women. A jury of my fears.
Trump could win an acquittal if the jury is a liberal Manhattan group that applies to Trump the same logic as it would have to Bill Clinton who also lied about sex
Poignant, well written, and alarming. Let’s pray. Howie Jo
